The manuscript arrived double-spaced and terrified of itself. Its sentences apologized; its chapters hid behind each other.
We removed one hundred pages and left the absence visible—brackets, silence, breath. Khalid signed off with a single note: “I can hear it now.”
The final work, After the Crossing, reads like a city at 4 a.m.—empty streets, kitchen lights, one voice going home.
Current status: private readings for small rooms; an audio edition whispered at the threshold of sleep.
