Søren Halvard

Dossier

Arctic Photographer.

Born among the Lofoten islands, Søren learned exposure from fog and failure. He shoots on expired 35mm and medium format, storing rolls in bait tins that still smell of herring.

In 2019 he vanished for a winter and mailed us a crate of contact sheets crusted with sea salt; The Vault bought the crate before it was dry. He refuses to photograph faces — “only traces”: ship wakes, empty chairs, rope burns on fishermen’s palms.

We curate his series Borealis_00: Blue Hour as limited contact-sheet prints and a silent film loop for salons. Collectors fight quietly for the salt stains.
